One of core functions public health should have is to monitor burdens of disease including harms caused by alcohol use. It became imperative in public health policy to assess and to monitor them, which less attention has been made in Korea. Harms derived from alcohol use include them from others¡¯ drinking as well as from drinker themselves. There has been growing effort to address alcohol¡¯s harm to others (AHTO), called secondary effects of drinking in a number of countries. This paper was to report magnitude of AHTO and identify correlates of it based on a national representative sample of adults (N=3,000) aged 19 year and older. The data showed that 33.7% of adults experienced AHTO measured by a standardized instrument(WHO-ThaiHealth) in previous year. The factors associated with experience of AHTO were age, residential area, drinking problem level by Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test, number of heavy drinkers around respondents, positive alcohol expectancy, and number of alcohol-related problem experienced by respondents themselves. Public health implications of this result were discussed.
